DIAMOND DUST in KAWAYU
Diamond dust is a phenomenon that occurs on days when the temperature is below minus 15 degrees Celsius when droplets of water in the air sublimate and fall back to the ground as tiny ice crystals. If there are lights, these crystals are illuminated brilliantly like millions of beautiful tiny diamonds.
We have “Diamond Dust in Kawayu” festival in February every year at Kawayu Enchi (picnic site), behind the Kawayu Onsen footbath.
There are hundreds of snow candles in the quiet forest and lots of events during the festival. If you are lucky enough, witness the natural phenomenon miracle of Diamond Dust! Why don’t you come and join us for the festival!

ダイヤモンドダストドリーム
川湯園地を流れる湯の川から立ちのぼる湯気。氷点下10℃以下の気象条件が整うと大気中の水蒸気が昇華し細氷（ごく小さな氷晶）つまりダイヤモンドダストが発生します。
光を与えると神秘的かつ幻想的な風景が造りだされます。温泉と極寒が出会う川湯ならではの現象です。
Diamond Dust Dream
If the natural conditions are met, steam from the Onsen River will create Diamond Dust. The tiny ice crystals will appear in the air illuminated by the lights.
Enjoy this unusual phenomenon.
千の雪灯りとアートの森
雪灯りスノーキャンドルが灯る森へ小さな小径が誘う。毎日数百ものろうそくのあかりが灯され、全国から集う現代アーティストの作品がコラボする。幻想的な光景が浮かび上がる。ピークには千個の雪灯りが灯るようスタッフが毎日雪を固める。期間中に使用するキャンドルは1万を超えるという。

”今日は、なんの日” を初上映する。
2年前に屈斜路湖畔で撮影された作品だ。
監督も来弟子、制作裏話も聞ける。
